What is All-On-X?

All-On-X is an advanced dental implant technique that allows for the complete replacement of all teeth in the upper or lower jaw using only 4-6 strategically placed dental implants. The “X” represents the number of implants used, with All-On-4 being the most common configuration. This innovative approach eliminates the need for individual implants for each missing tooth, making full-mouth restoration more accessible and efficient.

What makes All-On-X truly remarkable is that patients can receive a fully functional set of temporary teeth on the same day as their implant surgery. This means you won’t have to go without teeth during the healing process, allowing you to smile, speak, and eat confidently immediately after the procedure.

The Science Behind All-On-X

The All-On-X concept is based on biomechanical principles that distribute forces effectively across the dental arch. Dr. Goetz can achieve optimal stability even in cases with reduced bone volume by strategically placing implants at specific angles, particularly the posterior (back) implants.

The posterior implants are typically placed at a 30-45 degree angle, which increases the surface area of contact between the implant and bone. This angulation also allows longer implants to be used, further enhancing stability. The anterior (front) implants are usually placed vertically to provide additional support and ensure proper distribution of biting forces.

Modern implant materials, typically made of titanium or zirconia, are biocompatible and designed to integrate with your natural bone through a process called osseointegration. This creates a strong foundation for your new teeth that can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

The key factor to successful All-On-X cases is careful, multidisciplinary, digital, individualized case planning. With multiple technologies we are able to utilize, CBCT and intra-oral digital scanning, digital wax-ups, and virtual surgical planning software. By leveraging our expertise in clinical training and our advanced technology, we strive to provide our patients with unparalleled outcomes.

When to Consider All-On-X Implants

All-On-X may be an ideal solution if you identify with any of the following situations:

  • Have multiple missing or severely damaged teeth
  • Are wearing traditional dentures but are dissatisfied with their comfort or stability
  • Have been told you need significant bone grafting for traditional implants
  • Want to avoid the lengthy process of placing individual implants for each missing tooth
  • Desire a permanent solution rather than removable appliances
  • Are looking for a more natural-looking and functioning alternative to conventional dentures
  • Want to preserve your facial structure and prevent the sunken appearance often associated with tooth loss

Each patient’s situation is unique, and Dr. Goetz will thoroughly examine your teeth and supporting structures to determine if All-On-X is the right solution for your needs.

Recovery and Long-Term Care

Recovery from All-On-X surgery varies from patient to patient, but most individuals can return to normal activities within a few days. Some swelling and discomfort are normal and can be managed with prescribed medications.

Your temporary prosthesis will be functional but is designed to minimize pressure on the healing implants. Following your procedure, Dr. Goetz will provide specific instructions for oral hygiene and dietary restrictions during the healing phase. Typically, patients are advised to follow a soft food diet for several weeks.

The long-term success of All-On-X implants requires regular dental check-ups, professional cleanings, and good home care. With proper maintenance, they have a success rate of over 95% and can last a lifetime.

All-On-4 vs. All-On-6: Which Is Right for You?

When All-On-4 May Be Recommended

Dr. Goetz may recommend the All-On-4 approach in the following situations:

  • You have adequate bone density in key areas of your jaw
  • You’re looking for a more cost-effective full-arch solution
  • You want to minimize surgical intervention
  • You’re interested in the possibility of same-day teeth (immediate loading)
  • Your bite forces are within the normal range
  • You don’t have significant bone loss in the posterior regions

All-On-4 has been extensively studied and proven effective for many patients, with success rates comparable to traditional implant approaches. The procedure is less invasive and can often be completed in less time than All-On-6.

When All-On-6 May Be Preferred

The All-On-6 configuration might be more appropriate if:

  • You have significant bone loss in some regions of your jaw
  • Your bone density is lower than ideal
  • You have a history of grinding or clenching (bruxism)
  • You have a powerful bite or chew on one side of your mouth
  • You desire maximum stability and load distribution
  • Your jaw anatomy or oral health situation is more complex

The additional implants in an All-On-6 system provide enhanced support and may better distribute the chewing forces, potentially extending the lifespan of both the implants and the prosthesis. This can be particularly important for patients with stronger bite forces or those who tend to place more pressure on their teeth.

IMPLANT DENTISTRY DELRAY BEACH: ALL-ON-4 DELRAY BEACH PROCEDURE

6 Steps to Getting Your New All-On-4 Smile

Implant Placement

During the procedure, we place a few strategically positioned implants into your jawbone. These implants will serve as the foundation for your new set of teeth. The process is completed in a single visit.

Permanent Restoration

Once the implants have fully integrated with your bone, which takes around 3 to 6 months, we’ll attach your custom-made permanent teeth. These are designed to match the appearance and function of natural teeth, providing a beautiful and durable solution.

Initial Consultation

Your journey begins with a thorough consultation where we assess your oral health and discuss your goals. We use advanced imaging to plan your treatment precisely, ensuring the best outcome for your smile restoration.

Temporary Restoration

After the implants are placed, you will receive a temporary set of teeth. This interim solution allows you to function normally while your permanent restoration is crafted, ensuring you’re never without a complete smile.

Follow-Up and Maintenance

We schedule follow-up visits to monitor the success of your implants and ensure everything is functioning correctly. Regular check-ups and proper oral hygiene will help maintain your new smile and overall dental health.

FAQs

All-on-4 Delray Beach FAQ

All-on-4 is a permanent restorative procedure. Unlike removable dentures, you won’t have to take your prosthesis out to clean or rinse in water. With all-on-4 dental implants, as with any dental implants Florida, you will get a permanent set of new teeth that you will clean and brush as if they were your natural teeth. You will be able to perform the basic functions of your mouth such as talk, bite, chew and smile without the fear of unexpected accidents.

Yes. If you feel pain in your jaw you should get a check-up soon. If the diagnostic procedure reveals that in fact you are suffering from TMJ syndrome, there are several treatments that will ease your discomfort, relax your jaw muscles, prevent or correct teeth grinding, and improve the motion of your jaw and bite.

As with any restorative procedure, your insurance coverage will depend a lot on the type of insurance you have. Most insurance plans cover up to 50% of major restorative treatments, but have coverage limitation of $1500-2000 per year. Unfortunately that covers a very small portion of your treatment. Having said that, Ocean Breeze, although it is a fee-for-service office, electronically files insurance claims on the patient’s behalf so most patients get some coverage for this treatment.

Typically, the procedure of getting your new teeth can take approximately two hours per arch. If it is a complete upper and lower all-on-4 procedure, you can expect the procedure to take north of 4 hours. All-on-4 is a surgical procedure, so it takes longer than other less complex treatments. Remember you will be restoring a whole set of teeth all at once.

Yes. After the all-on-4 procedure has been completed and you have your final permanent prosthesis fixed to your 4 implants, your teeth will look completely natural again. Besides, you will be able to smile, talk and eat normally. Your gums will look natural, too. You must remember that as with natural teeth, you need to take good care of your new prosthesis and attend regular check ups and cleanings (twice a year) to see that everything is running smoothly. If you notice any kind of complications, cracks or discomfort, don’t wait too long to schedule an appointment.
