Gum Disease Delray Beach

Gum (or periodontal) disease can be professionally treated at Ocean Breeze Prosthodontics. We offer gum disease treatment to heal your gums and restore your oral health.

Periodontal disease is commonly caused by plaque or tartar that accumulates in your gum pockets. Gum tissue that surrounds your  teeth can get infected. Within time they deteriorate the structure that supports your teeth.

If left untreated, gum disease can worsen causing severe damage to your teeth, or even lead to tooth loss.

So if your gums are infected or start receding, then your teeth will not have a healthy basis, and will also start to deteriorate.

Symptoms such as swollen, bleeding or receding gums, are evidence of gum disease.

Gum Disease Treatment Procedure

Gum Disease Diagnosis

Gum Disease Treatments will vary depending on the stage of the periodontal disease. The procedure will generally consist of a few steps:

STEP 1

Your dentist needs to evaluate your oral condition through a Comprehensive Exam.

STEP 2

This Comprehensive Dental Exam includes checking your teeth, gums, bones, jaw. It also includes oral cancer screening and x-rays (if needed).

STEP 3

At this stage Dr. Goetz is ready to make a diagnosis and know what kind of Gum Treatment you need: severe cases will probably need surgical intervention, while milder cases will just require a deep cleaning procedure (scaling and root planing).

Gum Disease Treatment (Scaling and Root Planing)

Treating gum disease also requires a couple of steps. Depending on the severity of the case, you may require one or multiple visits. In most severe cases, surgery may be required as well. But in general, a deep cleaning should be enough to restore your gums back to health.

STEP 1

Using and electric or manual tool, your dental hygienist will remove tartar that accumulates in your teeth and pockets. The cleaning is deep and it goes from the tooth surface, all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. This will  allow the pockets where bacteria accumulates, to remain clean.

STEP 2

Then comes the root planing procedure. At this stage your dentist or hygienist will  smooth your  root surfaces, enabling your gums to reattach healthily to the tooth structure.

GUM DISEASE FAQs

Are Gum and Periodontal Disease the Same?

Yes. Gum or periodontal disease are caused by bacteria that accumulates in your gum pockets. Red, swollen or bleeding gums are the main symptoms of gum or periodontal disease. It is key to treat gum disease with the right procedure if you want to keep a healthy, good-looking smile.

What Does Gum Disease Treatment Involve?

Generally, if the stage of your periodontal disease is not severe, a deep teeth cleaning will do. Scaling and Root Planing Procedure is often used to treat gum disease. This procedure will do away with tartar and bacteria accumulated in your gum pockets and allow your gum tissues to heal and grow healthily again.

Gum Disease Early Stage: How Do I Recognize It?

Early stage of gum disease is known as Gingivitis. This can be seen when bleeding occurs during daily brushing and flossing. Good oral habits will generally do. However, if more bacteria accumulates, you will probably reach further stages of periodontal disease. At this point you will probably need a scaling and root planing treatment.

What is Gum Disease Treatment Cost?

Gum Disease Treatments might be covered by your insurance. We are a fee-for-service office, but we work with all PPO insurance plans. The coverage of your treatment will depend on the benefits your insurance offers you.

Can I Help Gum Disease Treatment at Home?

Keeping up with oral health is key to prevent gum infection. Brushing and flossing 4 times a day and making regular appointments will absolutely help. Home care plus in-office treatments is your path towards a healthy smile.
